NOTICE OF RACE

Round 2 – 9th June 2018

Springfield Lakes

 


1 ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
This regatta is organised under the overall authority of the Queensland Radio Yachting Association Inc. and the Australian DF65 Radio Sailing Association Inc. and conducted by the duly appointed Race Committees of Brisbane Radio Yacht Club Inc. (BRYC), Springfield Lakes Maritime Modellers Inc. (SLMM) and Paradise Radio Yacht Club Inc. (PRYC)

2 RULES
2.1 The regattas will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020 as amended by Appendix E (Radio Sailing Racing Rules).
2.2 The following documents will apply: this Notice of Race (NoR), the event’s Sailing Instructions (SI), International Class Administration Rules, the Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS), and the respective Class Rules.
2.3 The following Racing Rules will be changed: Restricted Class Rules ver 1.6 will apply.

E3.1: The control area will be defined on the course board.
E3.2: Launching area will be specified on the course board
E3.3: The course will be displayed on a course Board.
E3.6: Following a general recall, Rule 30.1 shall apply to the restart. For subsequent general recalls Rules 30.1, 30.3 or 30.4 may apply.
E3.8(c): Courses may be shortened.
E5.1(a): The race committee will appoint Observers, who may be competitors.
E6.4: Add “but prior to the prepatory signal for the next heat or race.”

The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions.

 

 

3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

3.1 The competition is open to affiliated members in good standing with QRYA (Inc.)
Entry will be denied to anyone who has been expelled or is currently serving a suspension from any State or Territory Radio Controlled Sailing Association affiliated with the ARYA (Inc).

3.2 The following class will be sailed:

Dragon Force 65 (DF65)
3.3 Eligible boats may enter Online at www.qrya.com.au. Payment is to be made at registration.
3.4 Late entries may be accepted at the venue under the discretion of the regatta organizers.
3.5 Final Entry: No further entries will be accepted after the start of Race 1.

4 FEES
4.1 Required fees are as follows:

DF65 $5 per round

Note: Two dollars from each entry will go towards trophies at the end of the final round. Three dollars from each entry will be retained by the host club to cover club sailing fees

5 EVENT SCHEDULE

5.1 Round One: Sat 3rd March hosted by BRYC at Carbrook
Round Two: Sat 9th June hosted by SLMM at Springfield Lakes
Round Three: Sun 16th Sept hosted by PRYC at Emerald Lakes

All rounds will comprise 12 races each (weather permitting) with 1 discard after 4 races and 2 discards after 8. A minimum of 5 races constitutes an event.
5.2 Racing Times:
Sign on for each round: 9.00am
Briefing: 9.45am
Racing commences: 10.00am
No race to start after: 3.00pm

5.3 A break for lunch may be included at the discretion of the PRO. Lunch will be taken at a time to best fit in with the racing.
No lunches will be provided by the host clubs, there are nearby shops at each venue


6 MEASUREMENTS
All registration formalities, including payment and any measurement checks, must be completed in accordance with the schedule outlined in this Notice of Race (NoR).

7 FREQUENCIES
For frequency bands other than 2.4 Ghz, each competitor shall nominate a minimum of three (3) frequencies with their entry. Permitted frequency bands are 27, 29, 36, 40 Mhz and 2.4 Ghz.

8 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
These Sailing Instructions will be placed on the Event Noticeboard prior to the commencement of racing.

9 COURSES
a) Where possible, the course will comprise a first leg and a finish leg to windward. The course will generally be a windward / leeward course utilizing a gate at the leeward end of the course.
b) The event will be sailed in one fleet. Where there are more than 24 entries the start line may be extended and split with an extra buoy set in the middle of the start line. The fleet may then be divided into two parts, half starting in each section of the start line.

10 PENALTY SYSTEM AND PROTESTS
10.1 RRS 44.1 is amended by E4.3: Taking a Penalty.
10.2 The Arbitration System for Protest Hearings will be used.
10.4 Decisions of the arbitration committee will be final.

11 SCORING
The scoring system is as follows:
a. For single heat racing the RRS A4 (Low Points System) will apply.
b. Racing in each round will be in one fleet. Where there are more than 24 entries the Start Line may be extended and split with an extra buoy set in the middle. The fleet may be divided in two, half starting in each section.
c. After each round, the three lowest individual scores from each club will be tallied and the club with the lowest score declared the round winner. At the end of three rounds each club’s round scores will be tallied and the club with the lowest total will be declared the Tri-Series Champion.
d. After three rounds the skippers individual scores from each round will be totalled and their worst round score discarded to decide the Individual Tri-Series Champion.
e. Individual non-starter skippers in any round will score ‘Fleet plus One’’ for each race in the round not sailed.

12 PRIZES
After round three, the Champion Club will be presented with a Perpetual Shield and the Champion Individual skipper, and second and third placed skippers will also receive an award.

13 CONDUCT

The Queensland Radio Yachting Association Inc. recognise that all events offer considerable publicity opportunities to Clubs, Associations and the sport generally. Competitor behaviour can impact unfavourably on the sport and all competitors.
Behaviour by a competitor that is in breach of good manners or sportsmanship or which may bring the sport into disrepute shall result in a hearing in accordance with RRS 2 or RRS69.1 or the PRO may offer a competitor a two turns on the spot penalty to avoid going to protest. However, the PRO is not obliged to make this offer, nor is a competitor obliged to accept it in which case a protest hearing shall proceed.

14 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

All those entering or taking part in this Tri Series do so at their own risk and responsibility. See Rule 4. The Queensland Radio Yachting Association Inc., the Australian DF65 Radio Sailing Association Inc. and any other parties involved in the organisation of this event disclaim:

“Any and every responsibility whatsoever for loss, material damage, personal injury or death, or inconvenience that might occur to persons and goods, both ashore and on the water, prior to, during or after the regatta, as a consequence of entering or participating in the Championship covered by this Notice of Race.”

At all times the responsibility for the safety of their boat and themselves plus the decision to participate or continue must rest solely with and remain at all times with the competitors.

A competitor may only enter the event by accepting these conditions as they appear on the entry form for this event.
