Sunday the 19th of November 2017 saw a round of the majestic EC12’s being held. These very graceful vessels look every bit the authentic thing when they are launched and it is without doubt a class that with the advent of the Dragon 65 and IOM’s has seen a decline in numbers. This is indeed a sad thing to see as I dare say there are no doubt a large number of the boats sitting in garages and under homes most possibly that haven’t seen the light of day in quite a while. A few weeks ago the EC12 owners association held a meeting and the thoughts are to try and get some interest going again in these boats and with BRYC hoping to run some of these events along with the boys at Newport we are sure that they will make a comeback. One of our members has already ordered a new boat and probably by about June July he will most likely be competing as well.

Our EC12 day saw a field of 6 skippers hitting the water and BRYC provided some great breezes which at times seemed to be coming from all over the shop, but the fellas that were competing felt that this only tested their skills even further so there were no complaints. Everyone on the pond behaved as gentleman would do with courtesy being given on rounding marks and there was no forcing boats out of the way or cutting off in any shape or form. All penalties were done without question. We started off with 6 boats but eventually this dwindled to about 4 then 3 so it was obvious that the craft hadn’t been used for a while and they had developed a few cobwebs. A great job was done by the volunteers from BRYC and we had plenty of people on hand to help and some of us ended up spectating.

Clive did a great job as always by providing some fantastic salad sandwiches. David Black as was there doing the scoring for us, so thanks to everyone who helped and a big thanks to those who competed. So please if you have an EC12 sitting in your garage and perhaps you’d like to sell it then please get in contact with us and I’m sure we will find a buyer for it.

Till next time please stay above the water

Paul.
